A fire broke out on the morning of Thursday, January 2. A heavy goods vehicle traveling on the Montée de Laffrey caught fire around 8:20 a.m. in the town of Saint-Pierre-de-Mésage, in Isère. Traffic is blocked in both directions while the vehicle is extinguished.

According to the La Mure gendarmerie company, the vehicle involved is a 38-ton semi-trailer on its way to deliver a supermarket on the Matheysin plateau. The heavyweight would have “overheated, causing a fire to start in the cabin“. The driver managed to leave the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

On site, 16 firefighters from the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis) were engaged to extinguish the fire. Firefighters managed to limit its spread. The operation continues on the Laffrey ramp.

As a result, traffic is interrupted on national road 85. Traffic is at a standstill in both directions. The police, present on the scene, redirect motorists towards the RD925. Road users are therefore asked to take the diversion passing through La Motte-d’Aveillans.

Traffic should resume in the morning in the direction of descent before an alternation is put in place. Traffic restrictions should be lifted”in the morning“.
