the records Djokovic can break in 2025

The best player in history has won all the important titles, but he still has a few marks to beat.

In 2024, Novak Djokovic (37 years old) did not have the year he wanted. He did not win any tournament on the ATP circuit, a first since 2005. Consequence: he fell to 7th place in the world rankings.

But the Serbian went to seek, in August in , the only major title missing from his incredible record: the gold medal in singles at the Olympic Games.

Now supported by his new coach Andy Murray, a former great rival, the “Djoker” has big ambitions for 2025. And even if he has won all the important titles in tennis, he still has a few records to beat. Here are the exploits within his reach. ????

Titles in Grand Slam

In 2023, Novak Djokovic equaled the absolute record (24) held by Australian Margaret Court since the 1973 US Open. The native of Belgrade will have a first opportunity to become sole record holder by offering himself a 25th coronation at the Australian Open (January 12 to 26), a tournament that he has already won 10 times.

Titres ATP

Djokovic – who revealed at the end of 2023 that he wanted to play until he is 40, at least – totals 98 tournaments won on the ATP circuit. Only Roger Federer (103) and Jimmy Connors (109) did better.

Coronations at Wimbledon and theUS Open

With seven titles on London turf, the Serbian, beaten in the final by Carlos Alcaraz in 2024, is only one victory away from Federer’s record eight titles. The “Djoker” also has four crowns at the US Open, one length behind the mark co-held by Federer, Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors.

Only the record for victories at Roland-Garros is out of reach: three times crowned on Parisian clay, Djokovic is very far from Nadal’s 14 titles.

The older to win a Grand Slam title

If he wins another Grand Slam tournament, Novak Djokovic – who turns 38 on May 22 – will become the oldest winner of a Major. The current record is held by the Australian Ken Roswellwho was crowned at the 1972 Australian Open at the age of 37 years, one month and 24 days.

Four coronations in every Grand Slam

If he is crowned at Roland-Garros, “Nole” would become the only tennis player to have won at least four times each Grand Slam tournament.

Titles on surface dure

The record is held by Roger Federer, with 71 coronations. But Novak Djokovic is just behind, with 69 trophies. Knowing that hard is his favorite surface and the one where he is most comfortable, the “Djoker” can legitimately hope to equal or even beat the Swiss’ mark, from 2025.

Carry out the Grand Slam

If he is the only player to have won three of the four Grand Slam tournaments four times in one season (2011, 2015, 2021 and 2023) and to have won each of the four Majors at least three times, “Djoko” has not yet achieved the Grand Slam, namely winning the four major tournaments in the same year. Which is considered, by many, to be the ultimate challenge in tennis.

It is also the one on our list which seems the least accessible to Djokovic, who must face strong competition from the younger generation (Alcaraz, Sinner and even Zverev).

Only the American Don Budge (1938) and the Australian Rod Laver (1962 and 1969) have succeeded on the men’s circuit. There are three to have achieved this in the history of women’s tennis: the American Maureen Connolly (1953), the Australian Margaret Court (1970) and the German Steffi Graf (1988).

Chinese, mountaineer and amputee: Jingkun Xu was at first glance not destined to board a boat. And yet, in 2024 he set off from the “Everest of the seas”, determined to complete one of the most formidable sporting competitions in the world.

Jingkun Xu slowly moves away from Australia. This means that he will soon enter 2025. For him, the festivities are nevertheless short and a bit distressing, and not only because the Western New Year is not as significant as that of the Chinese calendar. The skipper is alone on his boat in the South Seas. We can only wish him a calm and peaceful night, during which he will not have to release a distress rocket.
