► Five Palestinians died in custody in Israel

Palestinian prisoner rights organizations announced Monday, December 30, that five detainees from the Gaza Strip had recently died in prisons in Israel, which they accuse of“executions”.

The Palestinian Commission for Prisoners’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club released their names: Mohammad Rashid Okka (44), Samir Mahmoud al-Kahlout (52), Zuhair Omar al-Sharif (58), Mohammad Anwar Labad (57) and Ashraf Mohammad Abu Warda (51).

These five men were arrested according to them during the ongoing war in Gaza between the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas and Israel.

► WHO calls on Israel to release Gaza hospital director

The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on Israel to release the director of a hospital in the northern Gaza Strip arrested after a large raid on the establishment.

“Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip has been out of service since the raid, the forced evacuation of patients and staff and the detention of its director. We don’t know where he is. We demand his immediate release”WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote on X.

“Gaza’s hospitals have once again become battlefields and the health system is under serious threat”he estimated.

► Israel says it killed around 20 fighters in raid on Gaza hospital

The Israeli army claimed on Sunday evening to have killed around twenty Palestinian fighters in its raid on a hospital in the north of the Gaza Strip used according to it as a “command center” of the Hamas movement.

Its vast offensive, launched Friday morning, put « hors service »according to the World Health Organization, Kamal Adwan Hospital, which was the last major hospital still operational in the north of the Palestinian territory devastated by more than a year of war.

“Around 20 terrorists were killed during the operation and powerful explosive devices planted by the terrorists were neutralized”detailed the Israeli army in a press release on Sunday.

She had indicated the day before, at the end of her raid, that she had arrested the director of the establishment, Doctor Hossam Abou Safiya, whom she suspects of being a Hamas activist, as well as “more than 240 terrorists from Hamas and Islamic Jihad”.
