Feat of Alexis Monney and Franjo von Allmen on the Stelvio

Huge Alexis Monney and Franjo von Allmen! The two men gave Swiss skiing a second consecutive double in downhill after Val Gardena, at the end of a completely crazy race in Bormio. The two youngest skiers in the world’s top 30 pulled out all the stops on the extremely difficult Stelvio to achieve a monumental feat. An extraordinary technique and a fiery physique allowed them to write their name in the great history of the White Circus.

Never before has Alexis Monney been on a World Cup podium since his best result was an 8th place in Kitzbühel last season. But thanks to an almost perfect race and an absolutely splendid end to the round, the skier from Châtel-Saint-Denis (24 years old) experienced the best day of his young career. The 2020 junior world champion becomes the second Swiss to win in downhill in Bormio, succeeding Didier Défago, winner in 2011. Thanks to regular progression for several seasons, the Fribourgeois has been able to climb the ranks to the highest step of the podium.

Franjo von Allmen, aged only 23, reached his third World Cup podium. Slightly behind at the top of the Stelvio but still skiing at the limit, the 2022 junior world vice-champion stored up crazy speed at the bottom, perfectly mastering the San Pietro jump. The Bernese finally finished 0″24 behind his compatriot and great friend within the Swiss speed team. The podium is completed by Cameron Alexander, who still concedes 0″72 to the winner of the day.

Marco Odermatt and Justin Murisier miss the podium

Just behind, less than a tenth behind the Canadian, Marco Odermatt and Justin Murisier will especially rejoice at the feat of their Swiss friends. Big favorite in the absence of Cyprien Sarrazin, who was successfully operated on following his fall in training, the Nidwalden suffered a huge scare mid-race. Despite his airbag opening, however, he was able to recover and finish in 5th place, one hundredth ahead of Justin Murisier. The Valaisan made small inaccuracies but was able to maintain speed throughout his race, notably completing a huge jump from the San Pietro of almost 50 meters.

The excellent Swiss record is completed by the very good 9th place of Marco Kohler, his second best result on the Cirque blanc, while Stefan Rogentin finished 11th.
