Nicole and Eddy Barclay, an extraordinary French saga

The record company founded in 1954 by Eddie Barclay and his wife Nicole is celebrating its 70th anniversary. An incredible story that did not end with the departure of its creators, nor the crises that shook the recording industry.

His name comes up often in conversation. As if he was still a guide. As if his ghost still hovered around. This man is Édouard Ruault, better known under the pseudonym Eddie Barclay (1921-2005). No one on the Universal premises has forgotten the creator of the legendary record company which is celebrating its 70th anniversary at the end of the year. An institution that resisted its departure in 1983 and which retained all its influence among artists; Étienne Daho, Thomas Dutronc, Marc Lavoine and Calogeroen are the main headliners today. A real French success! “He was a pioneer, and he is a landmark,” confirms current Barclay boss, Georges de Sousa.
