The founder of Météo Côte-d'Or, Thibault Mascia, revealed his forecasts for the coming days, quite contrasting forecasts in Côte-d'Or and .

Between freezing fog, sun on the heights and industrial snow like this Friday, the department will experience varied weather until the new year.

A weekend under the anticyclone

Since Wednesday evening anticyclone settled in Côte-d'Or, bringing calm but contrasting weather: “This Friday, we have cold air trapped in the Saône plain, which causes persistent freezing fogwhile the Haute Côte-d’Or benefits from generous sunshine” explains Thibault Mascia.

“We were even able to observe falling snowflakes industrial snow around Dijon and in certain districts of the city” adds Thibault. This scenario will continue this Saturday, December 28, with severe frosts in the morning and an absence of thaw in Dijon in particular.

Industrial snow

The phenomenon of “ industrial snow» could also manifest itself in the coming days

What is industrial snow?

Thibault Mascia explains: “This phenomenon occurs when the cold air trapped by the anticyclone condenses the pollutants into particles around which the water droplets cluster, thus forming flakes,” explains the meteorologist. These flakes are often seen in urban and peri-urban areas, but very rarely in open countryside.”

Sunday December 29: more humidity

A slight development is expected on Sunday, with an intrusion of humid air: “The increase in humidity will favor the formation of widespread fogs . This will cause daytime temperatures to drop, but frosts will be less severe than the previous days” indicates Thibault Mascia.

Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 December will mark the return of dry air: “The weather will resemble that of Friday: soleil on the Haute Côte-d’Or and persistent grayness in the Saône plain, particularly in Dijon, which could not see the sun for at least a week” explains the expert.

The industrial snowcould also make a comeback under these conditions.

A disrupted start to 2025

For the Wednesday January 1 and Thursday January 2 a change in weather is expected: “The ocean flow will take over again, bringing good weather more disturbed, with rain, windand possibly snow, maybe even industrial but as I said, it'sdifficult to predict. However, the forecasts still remain unclear at this time” tempers Thibault Mascia.
