The prosecution announced the opening of a judicial investigation, Thursday, December 26, for intentional homicide of an ascendant. The events took place on Tuesday, December 24, at the Paama tribe, in Poindimié. That day, the alleged perpetrator spent the morning at the seaside, before returning to the family land around midday, where he moved into a house under construction.to continue wood engraving work“, indicates the public prosecutor, Yves Dupas. Around 2:30 p.m., his father, aged 62, who had been drinking all morning, joined him and encouraged him to drink with him. His son refused several times. Faced with his insistence and after “insulting remarks” uttered by his father, the 34-year-old man grabbed a saber from the room and struck his father in the face with the edge of the blade.

When they arrived on the scene, around 2:50 p.m., firefighters performed first aid on the victim, who was unconscious and lying on the ground in a pool of blood. His death was noted thirty minutes later by the hospital doctor.

A “rather calm” personality

Having left to take refuge with his grandfather, living 15 minutes away on foot, the alleged perpetrator finally returned to the scene of the tragedy, where he was arrested. The murder weapon was found in a coconut grove. The son’s blood alcohol test was negative. During his hearing in police custody, he admitted to having given his father a violent blow.

A gesture that he explained by the attitude of his father, drunk and staggering, which would have deeply irritated him, and by the memory of the behavior he had, when he was alcoholic, with his mother, who died on last year. He also indicated that his father had insisted for several weeks on making him drink alcohol, even though he knew that he did not consume any. “The testimonies collected in the family environment of the alleged perpetrator highlighted a rather calm personality, withdrawn from tribal life, and not consuming alcohol.“, reports the prosecution.
