End of the world, maritime festivals, fires: a look back at the year 2024 on the Crozon peninsula [En images]

2024 is already coming to an end. The opportunity to take a quick look in the retro. Various news items of all kinds, the Maritime Festival parade, a new edition of Boudu and the first edition of the Crozon Foil festival… It’s been a busy year on the Crozon peninsula.

March: Drama in Telgruc

In Telgruc-sur-Mer, on the morning of March 19, 2024, a gas leak caused the explosion of a house in the town center. The ensuing fire completely destroyed the pavilion. In the rubble, a 16-year-old boy and his mother were found deceased. The father, seriously injured, was airlifted to hospital. The tragedy aroused great emotion in Telgruc and throughout the peninsula.

July: Fire at the Tontons fringants

On the night of July 3 to 4, a fire and the explosion of gas cylinders ravaged the Tontons fringants bar-grocery store-restaurant, at Le Fret. Impressively, the fire left behind only ashes and traces of soot, despite the work of around twenty firefighters from Crozon and Camaret. No casualties were reported and the tourists present in the adjoining SNCF lodge, relocated with locals, were left with a big scare.

July: Great maritime festival parade

On July 18, the great parade of the Maritime Festival, between the Brest port and Douarnenez, passed before the eyes of thousands of spectators, installed from the Pointe des Espagnes to that of Pen Hir to admire the spectacle. A day dedicated to dazzling… solar and maritime!

August: A new edition of Boudu

The first weekend of August was busy, with the 25th edition of the Bout du monde festival which, in 2024, was once again packed… On stage, artists known from the French and international scene (Bertrand Belin, Zaho de Sagazan or even Editors) and great discoveries again this year, like Tautumeitas and The Congos. Looking forward to this summer, from August 1st to 3rd, on the Landaoudec meadow, for the 26th edition!

September: Death of René Le Gars

A figure in Crozon commerce has passed away: René Le Gars, who died on the eve of his 93rd birthday. Born in 1932, he grew up in Crozon and started in the market as a fruit and vegetable and milk seller. Affable and cheeky, he had a head for business. In the 1950s, he created Le Jardin de René, which became Unico and then Marché U, where the Carrefour Contact supermarket is still located. Very involved in commercial life, René Le Gars retired at the beginning of the 1990s and took advantage of his free time to travel, take care of his dogs, ride a motorcycle or explore at the wheel of his camper van. .

September: the peninsula liberated 80 years ago

This year, in Crozon as in many towns in , we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Liberation from the Nazi occupation. Wednesday September 18, on this occasion, elected officials, associations and authorities were gathered on the commemorative plaque of the Cap de la Chèvre command post

October: Success of the first Crozon Foil festival

A huge success for the very first Crozon Foil festival, which took place from October 10 to 13 on the peninsula. A large-scale event which brought together world-renowned surfers like Olivia Piana, Brady Hurley and Edoardo Tanas, reigning world champion. The highlight was the Dock start pumping events, attended by spectators who came in large numbers to discover and encourage the athletes in this astonishing and little-known discipline.

November: Happy ending in Argol

The search for a missing person kept the Peninsulars on alert between November 9 and 12. Setting out in sportswear on the coastal path near Trez Rouz, a mother was finally found, safe and sound in Argol, three days after her disappearance. The extensive search effort deployed by the gendarmes, the SNSM and the firefighters predicted the worst, but the outcome of the story was happy…
