A young actor’s life came to a tragic end after he fell from a moving car just days before Christmas.
Hudson Joseph Meek, 16, was injured by a blunt object after falling from the vehicle on the evening of December 19 in his hometown of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, located just south of Birmingham.
Two days later, the “Baby Driver” actor succumbed “peacefully” to his injuries on December 21.
“Our hearts are broken to announce that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight,” his mother, Lani Wells Meek, posted on her Facebook page. “His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished much and had a significant impact on everyone he met. »
The Vestavia Hills Police Department is investigating how the incident happened, local NBC affiliate WVTM reported.
“He was surrounded by friends, family and the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Meek’s obituary read. “Hudson was an organ donor and his family takes comfort in knowing that he will continue to help others for years to come.” » »
The Alabama native is best known for starring in the three-time Academy Award-nominated film “Baby Driver” as Young Baby. But he also starred in the Emmy-nominated television series “MacGyver” and performed voiceovers for Toys R Us, McDonald’s and the online video game “League of Legends.”
“Hudson was also an accomplished actor,” his obituary adds. “He worked on several major films and TV shows, some of which will be released in 2025. He truly enjoyed spending time on set and having the chance to learn the names and stories of each member of the cast and crew . ‘team.”
Meek had a very active life off-screen as a sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, including playing on the football team, singing in the honor choir, and being part of the student government.
Outside of school, he earned advanced open water scuba diving certification at age 14 and has visited all 50 U.S. states.
“Hudson’s personality was one of a kind,” the obituary said. “He was confident, convinced of his convictions, spontaneous and quick-witted. He never let facts get in the way of a funny story and he loved friendly banter.
He leaves to mourn his parents, his brother, his grandmothers, his aunts and uncles.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama.
The service will be available live from his Instagram account or on his mother’s Facebook page, according to his obituary.
His family established the Hudson J. Meek Memorial Scholarship to be awarded each year to a student at Vestavia Hills High School. They are asking people to donate to the fund instead of sending flowers, the obituary said.
