FC Barcelona is about to sign its first player for the year 2025.
In recent years, FC Barcelona has gone through a complicated financial period. Since COVID-19, the Spanish club has had to be much more careful with its spending, which has impacted the Catalans’ transfer window. In the summer of 2024, Barça only recorded the arrival of two new players : Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. However, the club greatly wishes to strengthen its team in 2025, and President Joan Laporta is ready to invest the necessary means.
The arrival of Hansi Flick brings a breath of fresh air to the team. The German tactician gives a second youth to many players and continues to perpetuate Barça’s desire to play young people from the training center. However, reinforcements are essential so that the team can become more competitive on many levels. One of the first reinforcements that could arrive in 2025 is the German defender Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen. According to Sport and Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona close to finalizing first deals for next season. Sources inside the club confirm that the process for Tah is on track and that the deal could be officially closed in January.
Jonathan Tah, the expected reinforcement
At 28 years old, Jonathan Tah is one of the centerpieces of Bayer Leverkusen under the leadership of Xabi Alonso. Present at the club since 2015, he has established himself over the years as an essential defender for the team. Last season, where Bayer performed at a sparkling level, the German defender stood out for his high level play. This season it remains crucial for the Spanish tactician, having played all the minutes of all the matches of the current season, i.e. 25 matches. The 28-year-old German is attracting interest from many clubs, notably because his contract ends in June 2025.
The Bayern Munich and the Real Madrid seemed to be on the defender’s trail, but he is now close to committing to the Catalonia side. Deco and Tah’s agent have already laid the groundwork for the German international’s new contract with Barca, which would have a duration of five years, until June 2030. His salary should be around 11 million euros gross per year. His arrival would coincide with the departures of Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia.
