Hot spell on gas boilers (and cold snap on purchasing power)

Hot flash on gas boilers. A decree published in the Official Journal on December 24 modifies the VAT rate in force to bring it from 5.5% to 10% on January 1, 2025. This decree dated December 4 lists the various insulation or heating equipment eligible for VAT at 5.5%. The THPE (very high energy performance) gas boilers which were until now part of this list no longer appear on this list. The increase in this tax concerns both the material and the installation of these boilers.

Initially, the 2025 finance bill planned to increase VAT on gas boilers to 20%. With the fall of the Barnier government, the law was forgotten. Well, at least temporarily? The idea is obviously still in the air. “By decree, we can only move from one reduced rate to another reduced rate,” indicates the Ministry of Ecological Transition. West .

The angry profession “in substance” as well as “in form”

Article 2 of the decree published in the Official Journal specifies “for operations which have been the subject of a dated estimate, accepted by both parties and which have given rise to a deposit collected before January 1, 2025, the rate of Value added tax of 5.5% remains applicable to eligible works.”

The measure annoys the profession. Like Cyril Radici, general director of the National Union of Climate Engineering Maintenance Companies (Synasav). “In form (taking advantage of Christmas Eve) as well as in substance (discrimination of populations with low purchasing power), Synasav can only deplore this abrupt regulatory notch imposed on the profession. »

The union explains that it “succeeded in preserving the reduced rate of 5.5% for boiler maintenance and repair services. […] But until when? », he asks.
