“I like to put social aspects into my stories”: meeting with Jean-François Mollere, a writer from Barran

the essential
Jean-François Mollere returned to settle in Barran, where he was born, once he retired. Today he unveils his 7th novel, “Verglas d’été”.

It was in Barran, in the Gers, that Jean-François Mollere was born and spent his childhood on the family farm, now sold. In his thirties, he left to work in Aveyron for the famous Roquefort cheese factory. This regular at places of character returns to enjoy his retirement in Barran, just before the pandemic. “Like many, I went in circles during confinement,” he says. Finding my roots hasn’t always been easy. The benchmarks evolve, people change, but little by little, we re-acclimatize.”

He then returned to writing, his “refuge” since the age of 17. Jean-François Mollere, who was once a cellar master in Condom in the country of Armagnac, thus rubbed shoulders with colorful characters whose confidences, sometimes surprising, nourished his romantic inspiration. A prolific author, he is now signing his 7e novel, “Summer Ice”, self-published in February 2024. “I like to put social aspects into my stories,” he explains. We feed on what we see.”

In this new book, he explores the complexity of human relationships, particularly in the professional environment. “Sometimes we get into a relationship without realizing that it can be dangerous. Like an icy road in the middle of summer, you don’t see it coming.”
Naturally modest, Jean-François Mollere found it difficult to make his works known. “I don’t really like putting myself forward.”

For those who would like to discover this local author and his works, you can find his novels on sale on Cultura, Fnac and soon, he hopes, in Gers bookstores.
