Guglielmo Masin, social media manager of the Democratic Party, talks about the campaign on responses to right-wing provocations at the table

«The theme of dinners and table discussions is trending these days. We wanted to make an ironic outing on social media. We thought of a small manual to respond to right-wing provocations.” Guglielmo Masinsocial media manager of the Democratic Party, explains how the Instagram campaign was born «Some ideas. To survive Christmas with your slightly right-wing relatives.”

Why the Harry Potter movie as the background of the posts?

Because Harry Potter is a very well-known film and at the same time it is also perceived as a Christmas film: every year they broadcast it again on the platforms. And then he had the right family.”

That is to say?
«The Dursleys, Harry Potter's uncles. The ones who don't want him to become a wizard and don't let him go to Hogwarts. A little bigoted, a little reactionary. We turned them into a right-wing family. Which was what we needed to deal with our themes.”

Which?
«Healthcare: “Have they scheduled your visit for March 2026? Isn't it the fault of those who cut public healthcare in favor of private friends?”. Immigration: “So are we talking about the 820 million wasted in Albania?”. Civil rights: “That's right, aunt. The gender theory exists as long as Santa Claus”.

Why the choice of film rather than photos?
«We did not want, and this is the line of the PD, to make personal attacks. Especially at Christmas. Instead we saw that the others made another choice.”

Will you do any more social campaigns?
«We already had one at the beginning of December, with a collection of things released together with the Spotify charts».

It is a campaign similar to that of Fratelli d'Italia. Did they copy you, did you copy them?
«No one copied anyone. These are important graphic and text processing jobs, there wouldn't have been enough time. We have been working on it for some time and they are posts that fit into our social strategy, more ironic and fresh to get out of the “bubble” and reach even those who would not follow the PD page.”
