While the 2025 Ioniq 5 became the first non-Tesla vehicle to be delivered with a built-in native NACS port that allows it to directly take advantage of Superchargers, Hyundai also has good news for owners of its other electric vehicles.
It just announced that all current Hyundai EV owners will receive a free Tesla adapter to charge at more than 20,000 available Supercharger stations across the United States. This is an adapter similar to the Lectron Tesla Supercharger NACS to CCS, available on Amazon, so Hyundai saves its electric vehicle owners $160 in expenses they would have incurred to take advantage of the opening of Tesla's Supercharger network to electric vehicles from Hyundai and Kia.
In fact, it was just a Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 were the first non-Tesla vehicles to test Superchargers with native NACS ports, so the adapters can most likely be used for Kia EVs too, or the announcement of a similar free NACS adapter from Kia.
The South Korean conglomerate has increased its US EV sales exponentially, becoming the second-largest electric vehicle maker after Tesla, thanks to its modern 800V powertrains with fast charging, efficient long-range transmissions and competitive pricing .
Free Tesla NACS adapters will begin shipping to Hyundai and Genesis EV owners in the U.S. in early 2025, while Hyundai North America's SVP of product planning and mobility strategy reminds us that other EVs with ports Native NACS are on the horizon:
To accelerate EV adoption, we started by listening to our current owners. These adapters will make DC fast charging more convenient for current owners. Additionally, the NACS port on new models, such as the upcoming Ioniq 9, along with improvements to our digital charging ecosystem, will further improve the customer experience for future EV drivers. Our goal is to make the transition to electric seamless.
