The writing “Reggio you are an enchantment” has now become a symbol of belonging and pride, destined to represent the city far beyond the drone show which, last weekend, lit up the sky over the Strait as part of the “Reggio Hometown”. A unique event, capable of enchanting adults and children, which gave an extraordinary experience to residents and tourists, projecting Reggio Calabria into the spotlight of the entire country.
The municipal councilor for programming, Carmelo Romeo, underlined the value of the initiative: “For the first time in Italy a Christmas show was created with drones. As explained by the organizers, it is a rare event, among the very few never promoted by a public administration. Innovative and courageous idea developed thanks to the work of our offices”.
Romeo explained the reasons that led to the choice of this show: “When, in October, we drew up the resolution for the Christmas events, we wanted to create something new and memorable, capable of surprising and becoming a postcard for Reggio, not only in Calabria but on a national scale.
Among the proposals that emerged, the mayor had the intuition to focus on drones, a choice that I supported and which we implemented thanks to intense team work. It wasn't easy: the project required complex bureaucratic steps and collaboration with public bodies to guarantee its success.
This is an initiative which, paradoxically, has had more media coverage outside the city context than at a local level, demonstrating Reggio Calabria's ability to attract attention even beyond its borders”.
The organization saw the involvement of Artech MDI, led by Luca Toscano, a globally recognized talent in the special effects sector.
“Luca Toscano has been included by Forbes among the thirty most influential under 30s in emerging sectors – explained Romeo – he is a young prodigy who takes care of the special effects of 90% of live musical events in Italy, and his work has brought visibility international to our city”.
The show, which saw 500 drones flying in perfect synchrony, was described by the councilor as “a visual narrative that thrilled the audience with its story. Behind every choreography there is meticulous work: another 200 reserve drones were ready to intervene to ensure that every detail remained impeccable. It is not just a question of lights and images, but of creating magic and suggestion.”
“We are happy with the enthusiasm that this show has aroused and the visibility it has given to the city. It is important to highlight that the entire event was financed with community funds, without burdening the citizens. We worked seriously, defining together with the Agency of cohesion the objectives and the consequences, both immediate and long-term, for the territory and for the local commercial fabric.
“Reggio you are enchanting” is not just a slogan, but a reminder of our pride and our ability to innovate. This show – concluded Romeo – is only the first step of a path that aims to consolidate the role of Reggio Calabria as a city capable of attracting attention at a national and international level”.
