Curiosities about the Maremma
At Christmas, in Maremma, ancient traditions are rediscovered that link Christian celebrations to rural culture. In the past, December 25th was a time of prayer but also of peasant celebration, with large lunches based on local products. Among the traditional dishes we find Maremma tortelli, often accompanied by wild boar ragù, and panficato, a poor dessert typical of the Giglio Island, made with dried figs, dried fruit and spices. A special tradition is the “Christmas log”: a large log of wood that was lit in the fireplace on Christmas night and left to burn to protect the house during the new year.

Have a good day, the Almanac della Maremma returns tomorrow.
