The star underwent training to spend several hours as the green being who hates Christmas.
Jim Carrey revealed the bizarre training he underwent for the film The Grinch – broadcast today on Italia 1 at 7.30pm – during a guest appearance on The Graham Norton Show a few years ago. In fact, to be able to act on set wearing the bulky green costume in Ron Howard's film, the actor had to work much harder than expected.
Carrey explained that he had embarked on a journey of CIA training to learn to have the mental strength appropriate to the time spent in the uncomfortable shoes of the protagonist in the Christmas cult.
Jim Carrey “asked for help” from the methods of the CIA
Graham Norton asked Jim Carrey for confirmation on the rumor that he had trained with the Navy Seals but the Canadian star denied this rumor, explaining in reality that he had asked the CIA for help.
“When I did The Grinch, with that makeup it was like being buried alive” Carrey confessed “I told Ron Howard I couldn't do it”. At that point the producer intervened Brian Grazer who decided to ask for help from a CIA agent, expert in training agents to resist torture.
The Grinch's anti-costume method
“If You're Going Crazy” Carrey explained “and you feel like you're going to collapse, turn on the television, interrupt your routine, or have someone you know smack you on the head, punch you in the leg, or smoke, smoke as much as you can”.
The methods of resistance to torture implemented by the CIA are not the only expedients used by Jim Carrey to endure that costume. The actor said he also listened to Bee Gees songs.
