The ski world is in mourning and in shock over the death of Sophie Hediger. The 26-year-old, a member of the Swiss national team of snowboardcrossdied on Monday under a avalanche ad Arosa.
“We are stunned and thinking of Sophie's family, to whom we offer our most sincere condolences,” said Walter Reusser, CEO Sport of Swiss-Ski. Sophie Hediger grew up in Horgen and spent a lot of time ad Arosa. It was there that his life ended tragically, abruptly and too soon, while practicing the freeridea hobby he loved very much.
Hediger had achieved her first two podiums in World Cup during the 2023/24 season. During the dress rehearsal for the world championships St. Moritz she came second; winning a medal at the world championships at home in Engadine next March was one of his sporting dreams. He got another one by participating in the 2022 Olympic Games in China.
