Christopher Nolan's next film The Odysseyis a mythical action epic filmed around the world using brand-new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer's founding saga to IMAX theater screens for the first time and will be released in theaters worldwide on July 17, 2026.
The ancient Greek poem is one of the founding texts of Western literature. It tells the story of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War, exploring themes of heroism, loyalty, cunning and the struggle against divine will. The tale includes iconic episodes such as his encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the mermaids and the witch-goddess Circe, culminating in his reunion with his wife Penelope.
Homer's poem has been the subject of numerous film and TV adaptations. Let us remember, for example, the Italian film Ulysses of 1954, directed by Mario Camerini and starring Kirk Douglas, as well as the 1997 miniseries The Odyssey directed by Andrei Konchalovsky and starring Armand Assante.
The Odyssey It will thus be Nolan's first foray into epic cinema, taking him away from the themes that the director has always addressed.
As previously announced, Nolan's next film will star Matt Damon, Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o and Charlize Theron.
