Former US President Bill Clinton has been hospitalized at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington DC due to a high fever. The news was spread on social media by Clinton's former deputy chief of staff, Angel Urena, and quickly made the rounds in the American media.
According to Urena, the 78-year-old Clinton is in good spirits and deeply grateful for the brilliant care he is receiving. “President Clinton was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center this afternoon for evaluation and observation after developing a fever,” Urena wrote on X.
A life of service and health challenges
Bill Clinton served as president of the United States from 1993 to 2001, leading the country through a period of economic growth and international stability. After leaving office, Clinton continued to be an influential figure in politics and philanthropic activities, through the Clinton Foundation, which focuses on global issues such as health, climate change and economic development.
However, the post-presidency years have not been without challenges. Clinton faced several significant health problems. In 2004, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital to relieve blockages in his coronary arteries. Six years later, in 2010, he returned to the same hospital for another heart surgery, during which two stents were inserted into a coronary artery to improve blood flow.
Global recognition and support
The former president is no stranger to medical challenges. In 2021, Clinton was hospitalized again, this time in California, due to a urological infection that had spread to his bloodstream, requiring six days of hospital treatment. Despite these health problems, Clinton remained active and engaged, participating in global events and continuing to contribute to the public discussion on crucial issues.
The news of his recent hospitalization sparked a vast wave of solidarity and wishes for a speedy recovery from world leaders, political colleagues and ordinary citizens. On social media, numerous public figures expressed their support, underscoring the importance of Clinton's contributions to politics and society.
Hillary Clinton's response
Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State and presidential candidate in 2016, shared on social media a message of gratitude for the care her husband is receiving and for the support he has received. “Bill is in good hands and is receiving excellent care. We are deeply grateful for the numerous expressions of affection and support we have received. We will keep you updated on his condition.”
