Milan, 23 December 2024 – Inter ends 2024 with a success within the friendly walls of San Siro, beating Como 2-0 and responds to the victories of Napoli and Atalanta by keeping pace with its direct competitors in the race for the Scudetto. Despite the final result, however, the Nerazzurri struggled more than expected to find the right keys to open the defensive treasure chest of a Como team capable, in the first half, of surprising Inzaghi's men with a very compact 5-4-1. A careful deployment, which however did not prevent Como from playing with great determination and resourcefulness, even managing to become dangerous with Nico Paz in the 27th minute. Five minutes later the first real Inter opportunity, scored by Dumfries who, after a good exchange with Mkhitaryan, kicked high with first intention. Dimarco was also dangerous at the end of the half, but the real change of pace came in the second half, when the hosts raised the pace and the level of quality of play, breaking the deadlock with Carlos Augusto's header in the 50th minute. Having found the goal, Inzaghi's men tried to accelerate further, but Como withstood the blow, raising the white flag only in full injury time when Thuram sealed the final 2-0 with an excellent percussionand, arriving at the end of a race of great sacrifice. He complimented his opponents and his colleague Cesc Fabregas at the end of the match. the Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghiwho obviously appeared very satisfied with this success on DAZN's microphones: “First of all we must congratulate Como, who came to San Siro to play a great match, with a great personality. We faced a very organized team, with excellent playing principles. They ran a lot. In the first half our outings were a little more problematic also due to the non-trivial pressure from Como. We played a game as a mature team, which risked almost nothing and struck at the right time. Fabregas' compliments are nice and I reciprocated with him. He's doing a great job. He started recently and immediately won Serie B, which is not a given. He is playing excellent football and he should be congratulated. Como plays well and here too they played in a proactive and non-speculative manner.” THEThe only slightly discordant note of the evening was Lautaro Martinez's eighth goalless match in a row: “He's our captain. The fact that he hasn't scored in eight games is news, but he must continue to play in this way, with confidence, because he has the opportunities and will therefore return to scoring goals. I'll have to watch this match again, but even in Monday's match he and Thuram did a great job. Taremi and Arnautovic did the same on Thursday. We ask a lot of our attackers and we expect them to lose a bit of clarity for a few games. We have to keep winning, but I know what it means not to score for an attacker. He must remain calm knowing that the team is winning and he has everyone's support.” The gloss is on Naples and Atalanta: “I already said in July that it would be an exciting championship because all the teams had strengthened and that it would be different compared to the last two years”.
