The scene was repeated with great enthusiasm and records were broken: 20,000 toys were collected. The lawn of the Estadio Benito Villamarín was filled with soft toys to mark the start of the Christmas holidays and, above all, so that no child could be left without their gift during these holidays.
This initiative started in 2018 and turned into a tradition during the last home match of the year for Real Betis Balompié. In addition to the soft toys thrown onto the pitch during half-time, a collection area for larger toys was set up in the fan zone of the stadium, intended for children in Valencia affected by DANA.
In total, more than 20,000 toys were collected, exceeding the previous year's record of 19,000 by 1,000. From today, various organizations such as ANDEX, SOS Aid Without Borders, the Spanish Commission for Refugee Assistance, the Paz y Bien Association and others will begin to receive the donations. As usual, the children of the Malabo orphanage, in Equatorial Guinea, will also benefit from some of the toys donated by the club's supporters. This gesture of solidarity from Real Betis Balompié highlights and thanks the selfless commitment of their fans. With the whistle signaling the end of the first half of the Real Betis – Rayo Vallecano match and with the countdown from the presenter, the crowd covered the green lawn with plush toys, creating a lively image on the pitch.
