A forgotten Google Maps feature is popular on TikTok

A current trend on TikTok consists of videos of people revisiting places where they lived in the past, showing the least recent possible version of images stored from Google Street View, option offered by Google Maps. By highlighting images from years ago, it is easy to come across people who are no longer there, shown on porches, verandas and the like, people mowing the lawn or doing something else, allowing glimpses of past life… how the neighborhood where you live in the past has changed time, etc.

Someone has found photos where he appears very young riding a bicycle in the driveway, others romantically point out large trees no longer present in the avenues where they live (cut down years before) and things of this type.

The function in question is not new (it has existed for years) but many have discovered it now and present it as an “emotional” and “nostalgic” experience, inviting others to open the app or web service to see what moments are were captured by Street View cars that were passing near the house at the time.

To test the dal function web just open the map at a desired point, drag the icon that allows you to activate Stret View in the exact point we want to see at street level: when the images appear, you can select the “see other dates” item and select the one you are interested in Historical imagery is not available for all locations for which Street View imagery exists.

Dal telephone (iOS or Android) just access Street View in Google Maps, search for a place or insert a pin on the map, tap the thumbnail with the Street View icon; if there are images from previous years, the “See other dates” option appears.

Apparently Google Street View may have made it possible to solve a murder case in Spain: a man was “framed”, immortalized while loading a large white bag into the trunk of his car, what appears to be a clumsy attempt to load a body in the car with the intention of disposing of it.
