Milan Mayor Confident: ‘2025 Will Be The Decisive Year’ For Inter Milan & AC Milan New San Siro Project

Milan Mayor Beppe Sala is confident that 2025 will be the “decisive” year in Inter Milan and AC Milan’s efforts to build a new San Siro.

Speaking to reporters, via FCInterNews, the Milan Mayor stressed that it is basically now or never to finally move forward with the stadium project.



Inter and Milan are currently trying to begin work on building a new stadium in the San Siro area.

For several years, the two clubs attempted to secure approval to demolish the existing San Siro. This would pave the way to build a new stadium in its place.

After this proved impossible, Inter and Milan explored options outside the city of Milan.

The Nerazzurri have focused their efforts on the commune of Rozzano. Meanwhile, the Rossoneri went as far as to buy land in the San Donato area.

Then, Milan Mayor Beppe Sala has made an effort to lure Inter and Milan back to the San Siro.

Firstly, the Milan Mayor proposed the idea of renovating the San Sirlo to bring it up to the two clubs’ requirements.

Inter and Milan rejected these plans.

However, the idea that the two clubs are now considering the possibility of buying land in the San Siro just next to the existing stadium, and building adjacent to it.

Milan Mayor Sala Confident: “2025 Will Be Decisive” For San Siro Project

As far as next yet, Sala said that “It has to be decisive.”

“Because it’s clear that, apart from the question of possible injunctions on demolition that comes into force in October, if we can’t finish things up now, I don’t think we’ll ever be able to.”

“We’ve worked on it intensely,” said the Milan Mayor.

“So I’m somewhat more positive than I have been in previous months.”

Sala noted that “In the new year, the first step will come in February or March.”

That is “when the municipality expects confirmation of the new financial plans from Inter and Milan.”

Sala noted that “If we don’t resolve this by the time of the summer holidays, we won’t resolve them within my mandate.”

“That’s why I’m speaking positively about the relationship between my office and the clubs,” he added.
