The Services Conference approved the reconstruction, repair and restoration of the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Rieti. Following the earthquake that affected central Italy, to allow access to the Church, a protective net was placed on the central nave and the transept and access to the presbytery and apse was completely inhibited. The close analysis of the vertical surfaces instead showed the presence of numerous small fractures, which were not visible from an inspection from below; the testing by beating the plaster layer also highlighted the presence of large, completely detached areas. In consideration of what emerged in the apse area, it was decided to extend the assessment of the state of adhesion of the plaster also to the side chapels, through the use of mobile scaffolding; in four chapels the presence of the same problems that emerged on the walls of the apse and the right transept was found. The additional interventions concerning the bell tower are included among the complementary works to the execution of the interventions and were also considered necessary to allow the full restoration of the functionality of the work according to the intended use of the property as of 24 August 2016. 2.520. 000.00 euros is the total cost expected for the intervention.
