After the report by Reporthere it is motion in the Region against the realization ofThe Santa Palomba incinerator. The proposed motion presented by Five Star Movement (M5S) and from Progressive Polo (PP) marks a significant step in the debate on waste management in the Lazio Region.
I asked the Lazio Region for an opinion
“We ask that the President of the Lazio Region Rocca and the waste councilor Ghera finally take a position regarding the construction of the Santa Palomba incinerator – they declare in a note the M5S Lazio group leader Adriano Zuccalà, the M5S councilor Valerio Novelli and the group leader of the Progressive Polo Alessandra Zeppieri – Report's investigation confirmed the inconsistencies that we have been denouncing for over two years and an investigation has finally been opened at the Ecomafie parliamentary commission.
It is a moment of courage for the Lazio Region; Gualtieri's commissioner powers are not an insurmountable obstacle.”
President Rocca could block the construction process of the plant
According to the 5 Star Movement, the president Rocca could block the construction process of the plant: can accept the resolution of the Albano Laziale municipal council of December 2023 which requires, as provided for by regional law n. 13 of 2019, the establishment of an area at high risk of environmental crisis on the site of the Roncigliano landfill; or establish an Environmental Protection Area from surrounding pollution around the Laurentino well field.
A request that also reaches the Government
All the councilors also ask the President to communicate with the national government so that the powers of the Extraordinary Government Commissioner for the Jubilee regarding waste are reviewed, not only because the incinerator would come into operation once the Jubilee is over, but above all because it would force the entire region to burn 600 thousand tons of waste per year for 33 years, “a real condemnation for the territory, the environment and the health of fellow citizens”.
