Interview with Alisson Becker: clean sheets, Tottenham and the goal of “something special”

Liverpool actually conceded five goals in those two draws too – does that kind of run focus your and the rest of the team's mind in terms of getting back to keeping a clean sheet?

Yes, clean sheets have been a big part of our success so far this season, so if you want to do something special, if you want to win titles, you have to have a solid defense and that means the whole team has to work hard to get the clean sheet. Also, in a match, if you don't concede a goal you are closer to winning and with the quality of our players in attack, we know we can hurt our opponents. But if you look at the games we have played, in the last two games, against Newcastle it was a frenetic game and they are very strong too [e] playing away from home is not easy

.

And against Fulham we had one man less and it's not easy to manage that, you'll give your opponents space to play. You could tell because we tried to win the game, we didn't just try to get the result or anything like that. But we know that we have many things to improve and not giving away easy chances is one of them and this affects the whole team: the way we press high up, the way we defend deep, the way we close down space in midfield , so it is the whole team that has the main objective of keeping a clean sheet.

Tottenham often start games quickly, so is this something you need to be aware of and also prepare for?

Yes, we are trying to prepare as best we can and we know their qualities. We know how strong they are, both individually and collectively. But you know how football works when you go to play away, you don't want to give the fans or the opponent any hope. If you can keep them still at the beginning of the game it would be good, if you can cool them down it would be good. But we are ready to go there and fight properly. Our main objectives are a clean sheet and three points, that's clear, and we know we will have to work hard to do that because, as I said before, it's not an easy place to go. When they bring the audience together they can also be strong and we want everything to go perfectly for us.
