The last day of the single round of the Conference League is ready to take place. Fiorentina seeks direct qualification to the round of 16, waiting for the playoff draw to take place on Friday 20 December, starting at 1pm, which will make up the scoreboard for the next phase, which will be visible and live on the official UEFA website. But how does it work?
CHAMPIONSHIP PHASE REGULATIONS – First of all, let’s remember the regulations of the championship phase. The top 8 in the championship phase will directly advance to the round of 16. The 16 teams finishing between 9th and 24th will play in the playoffs: from 9th to 16th as seeded, the remaining from 17th to 24th as unseeded. Those ranked from 25th place onwards will be eliminated.
SCOREBOARD – The draw for the play-offs for the direct elimination phase will then be held on Fridayta (i.e. the teams positioned from 9th to 24th place) and a tennis-style scoreboard will be created. The playoff matches are already pre-established in pairs, as follows: clubs finishing in 9th or 10th place will challenge clubs finishing in 23rd or 24th place, clubs in 11th or 12th against clubs in 21st or 22nd °, clubs in 13th or 14th against clubs in 19th or 20th and clubs in 15th or 16th against clubs in 17th or 18th (READ THE ENTIRE BOARD HERE).
DRAW OPERATION – In the eight urns there will be two balls eachcorresponding to the pairs of teams above. Four pots are reserved for the unseeded players (pot 17/18, pot 19/20, pot 21/22 and pot 23/24), and four pots are reserved for the seeded players (pot 9/10, pot 11/12 , urn 13/14 and urn 15/16). The positions on the board are already pre-established.
The draw will begin with the unseeded teams, starting from the pot containing the teams in positions 23/24: the first of the two clubs drawn will end up on the left side of the board, the other team on the right side. We will proceed in the same way for the other unseeded pairs (19/20 and 17/18).
Subsequently we will continue with the same mechanism for the seeded teams. The first pot to be drawn will be 15/16: the first of the two teams drawn will go to the left, the second to the right. And so on until the pairs and the playoff picture are completed.
I PLAYOFF – The play-offs are played via direct elimination with home and away matches, with the top seeds returning home. The winners of the play-offs will qualify for the round of 16 of the competition where they will meet the top eight from the championship phase. Here are the dates:
- First leg: 13 February 2025
- Return: February 20, 2025
ROUND OF 16 DRAW – The new drawfrom the round of 16 onwards, it will be on February 21st. But, given the tennis nature of the draw, each club will already know the names of the four teams that they will be able to challenge in the round of 16, given that in the February draw the pairing mechanism will be similar (1st and 2nd form a pair, as does 3rd and 4th, as well as 5th and 6th, as well as 7th and 8th).
