Over the next few hours, the influx of cold polar maritime air over the Mediterranean will generate a depression over the Ligurian Sea, which will move towards the Tyrrhenian Sea tomorrow. It will reach a depth of 995 hPa over the Upper Tyrrhenian Sea and will affect Tyrrhenian Sicily during the evening and night of Saturday.
The main thing to pay attention to will be the wind, which will already be blowing moderately from the west from the morning. The intensity of the wind will increase during the afternoon of Friday and then especially in the evening, when it could reach or even exceed 100 km/h on the Trapani area, on the Palermo area and above all on the Messina area. The wind will not spare practically any area of the island. The Aeolian Islands could be the most affected, with gusts of 100-120 km/h. The wind will blow very strong at altitude, with gusts higher than 120 km/h from 1000 meters and 150 km/h from 2000 meters. On Saturday night the wind will rotate to Mistral, still with strong gusts across the entire region and especially in the Messina area.
During the day the seas will increase their swell motion. The Sicilian Channel will become rough in the evening, while the Tyrrhenian Sea could become very rough or large, with waves up to 5/6 meters high on the Aeolian Islands. Winds gradually weakening from Saturday morning.
