Yellow Level Thunderstorms and Strong Winds

The Civil Protection of the Campania Region, considering the evaluations of the Functional Center, has issued a weather alert with hydrogeological criticality due to Yellow Level thunderstorms and a simultaneous notice for strong winds and rough seas, valid from 6 AM tomorrow morning, Friday, December 20, until 6 AM the day after tomorrow, Saturday, December 21.

The weather alert for strong winds with gusts and rough seas with possible storm surges concerns all of Campania; the Yellow alert for thunderstorms, on the other hand, concerns the entire regional territory, except for zones 4 (Alta Irpinia and Sannio) and 7 (Tanagro).

These are the expected phenomena in detail: from local to scattered precipitation, even in the form of showers or thunderstorms, occasionally of moderate intensity. Predominantly strong westerly winds with possible gusts and a tendency to shift from the North in the evening. Rough seas, with possible storm surges along the coasts exposed to the winds. In the areas affected by the Yellow criticality for thunderstorms, a localized hydrogeological risk is highlighted with ground effects with scenarios of flooding, overflow, runoff, landslides, and rockfalls linked to soil fragility conditions.

The city parks, the north pier of Bagnoli, will be closed for the entire duration of the alert, and access to the city’s public beaches will be prohibited. This is announced by the Municipality of Naples.
