The draw for the quarter-finals of the 2024/25 Italian Cup was completed this evening: Inter defeated Udinese 2-0 at San Siro, in the last match valid for the round of 16. The Nerazzurri, fresh from the large victory against Lazio in the championship, overcame the Friulians with goals from Arnautovic and Asllani. Inzaghi’s team will face Lazio in the next round. The quarter-finals of the tournament are scheduled for February: the other matches will be Bologna-Atalanta, Milan-Roma and Juventus-Empoli.
The news of Inter-Udinese
Udinese play with personality at San Siro, coming close to scoring in the second minute with Ekkelenkamp, whose shot ends just wide. After another three turns of the clock, the VAR takes away a penalty kick awarded to Inter, who still find the lead goal on the half hour mark: this time Ekkelenkamp is the negative protagonist, giving the ball to Taremi. The Iranian serves Arnautovic, who passes Piana and puts Inter ahead. After the goal the Nerazzurri pushed with more conviction, and came close to doubling the lead with Carlos Augusto. In injury time in the first half – after an interruption of several minutes to help a fan who had fallen ill in the stands – Asllani found the second goal with an ‘Olympic goal’ directly from a corner. In the second half Inter managed the advantage and in the final Taremi came close to scoring a hat trick by hitting the post at the end of a good restart.
