The game stopped for over five minutes at the end of the first half: Bastoni noticed a fan in difficulty and called the attention of the paramedics.
Moments of fear and tension at San Siro at the end of the first half of the match between Inter and Udinesevalid for the round of 16 of the Italian Cup. The challenge, in fact, was suspended for a few minutes following an illness reported by a fan. Referee Massimi and the players remained for more than five minutes waiting for reassuring news, which fortunately arrived. Curiosity: the match restarted with a corner kick which gave rise to Asllani’s 2-0 goal, directly from the flag.
Inter-Udinese, Bastoni and the illness of a spectator
According to what was reported by commentator Riccardo Trevisani and Mediaset correspondents at San Siro during the match report on Italia 1, it was Bastoni – at 40′ of the first half – who noticed an illness suffered by a spectator. The defender of Inter and the national team drew the attention of the referee and the match was interrupted, just before – in fact – a corner in favor of Inzaghi’s team. Long moments of waiting for players and fans, united by the desire to receive good news.
The good news: the fan started breathing again
Again according to what was reported in the news, the doctors’ intervention proved providential, with the spectator taken ill and starting to breathe again and was then transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital. Images and moments that remembered – in a chilling way – the anxiety over what Edoardo Bove experienced in Fiorentina-Inter. During the suspension, an off-air sound was clearly heard coming from the green rectangle: “But is he breathing? Is he breathing?”. Once he had confirmation of the recovering condition of the spectator who had fallen ill, referee Massimi authorized the resumption of the game.
The chorus of Udinese fans and the images on the pitch
During the five minute suspension the TV images, as is now customary imposed by the Football League itself, lingered on the pitchwithout lingering on shots of the sector where the fan who was the victim of the illness was located. AND some didn’t even realize the reason for the suspension. The Udinese fans following their favorites, for example, chanted loudly during the break: “Udine, Udine”. Boos are inevitable, even if – in all probability – the Friulian supporters had no idea of the reason for the temporary stop.
