Dominique Pelicot was sentenced to the maximum sentence, 20 years in prison, for the aggravated rapes against his ex-wife Gisèle Pelicot, in Mazan rape trialThat ends today in Avignon. The man was accused of drugging his wife for almost a decade to rape her and have her raped by dozens of men.
The other fifty defendants were also sentencedi, accused of raping the woman at her husband’s invitation.
“Mr Pelicot, you are found guilty of aggravated rape on the person of Gisèle Pelicot,” declared the president of the Vaucluse criminal court, Roger Arata.
Dominique Pelicot, 72 years old, stood up and listened to the judge attentively, but without expressing particular emotions. He is also found guilty of collecting images of his wife and daughter without their knowledge. The whole family appeared in the courtroom at the Palace of Justice in Avignon.
The 51 defendants in the trial were therefore all declared guilty. Most of them are found guilty of “aggravated rape in a meeting and administration” of drugs to Gisèle Pelicot.
IThe judge gradually listed the various sentences: in addition to the 20 years in prison for her husband Dominique, for the others the sentences imposed by the Avignon court range from 3 to 13 years in prison.
Most of the convicted defendants will also be registered in Fijais, a French database that includes perpetrators of sexual or violent crimes.
