Donnarumma has a devastated face, shocking images. Le Parisien: “Singo wasn’t even booked”

The video of the clash with the Monaco side has gone viral. It even went well for the national team goalkeeper. French newspapers against the referee

Saint-Germain’s Italian goalkeeper #01 Gianluigi Donnarumma (C) receives medical help after sustaining an injury during the French L1 football match between AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain at the Louis II Stadium (Stade Louis II) in the Principality of Monaco on December 18, 2024.

After the video – terribly spectacular – comes the photo. Singo’s kick to the face of Donnarumma on the way out, with the studs devastating his face is obviously viral. Le Parisien also publishes a photo of the damage: you can see the swelling, the cuts, ten staples holding the torn skin together.

And the French newspaper rightly writes that this thing cannot end like this. Because Singo “did not receive any sanction from referee Letexier”. He was already booked, he didn’t even get a yellow card. He should have been expelled. How is this possible?

Le Parisien reports: “We were in the 17th minute when Wilfried Singo, launched at full speed by Breel Embolo on the left of the Parisian defence, enters the area and pushes the ball a little too much in his final control. Solid, Gianluigi Donnarumma won his duel but got the better of the Ivorian. In slow motion, the images are scarythe Monegasque’s studs crashed right onto the right cheek of the Italian, who remained on the ground, stunned by the force of the impact. The doctors from the capital club rushed in and, quickly, Achraf Hakimi asked for a change. For five long minutes, Gigio remained on the ground before giving way to Matvey Safonov, while François Letexier, referee of the match, allowed the game to resume without sanctioning Singo, already under the influence of a yellow card from the 13th minute. Nor did VAR intervene. At the end of October, the French referee sent Amine Harit off for a foul on Marquinhos, who was much less dangerous.”

“Letexier considered that Singo’s fault was the result of a non-reckless attitude. The referee considered that the Monegasque had failed to take precautions but that there was no dangerous intent. This is his interpretation of the rule”explains Bruno Derrien, former international referee.

During the interval Donnarumma asked Letexier for explanations. The referee remained silent. Marquinhos, the PSG captain, commented: “We have to protect the players. In a situation like this, the fact that there is no red light is incredible.”
