The coach of Pachuca, Guillermo Almadaand the player Oussama Idrissi appeared together at the press conference on the eve of the Intercontinental Cup final, which the Mexicans will play today (start at 6pm) against Real Madrid.
How was the preparation? What would it mean to beat Real Madrid?
“Many matches from different national and international competitions were added to the calendar. When we finished we took the opportunity to give ourselves a few days of rest and prepare for this match. We tried to give a lot of intensity, to refresh some things. We did a lot well against Botafogo and we hope to continue to do so in this final. For us it is a final; regardless of whether the rival we face is a team with the history of Real Madrid, it would be a significant result for us undoubtedly, it will be complicated and difficult.”
The last Mexican team capable of beating Real Madrid was Pumas in the Bernabéu Trophy. And only Necaxa beat him in an official match, in the 2000 Club World Cup. What chances do you have? What will you say to your players to motivate them?
“It’s football, we have to believe in our group and in the individuals. The pitch will have the same dimensions and there will always be the same number of players. It’s not the names or history that count, but what each team offers at that moment. To compete we need to become strong from a collective point of view. This was our path. We must believe in ourselves, defend our dream.”
