it’s not a secret Aaron Rodgers and his family don’t get along … but now the Jets caller is delving into some of those issues, saying the rift between his parents was so bad that he had to “be a dad again” himself.
The 4x NFL MVP quarterback, 41, addressed the issue in his new three-part Netflix docuseries “Aaron Rodgers: Enigma,” one of the few times he has publicly addressed the topic.
“Sometimes when you have some dysfunction or some separation in your family life, you have to be a parent again and indulge in what you didn’t get or what you didn’t want to hear about anymore when you were a child, and I think that’s why I just wanted to hear: ‘ I’m proud of you,’” Rodgers said during the second episode of the series.
Aaron continued… “I had to find a way to be my father in those moments and say, ‘Hey, fuck, be perfect. I’m proud of who you are and what you’ve accomplished inside and out.’ “the field.” And I’m sorry for all the mistakes, because I was just trying to do the best I could and a lot of times it wasn’t good enough.”
While most fans discovered the family drama years later, AR says it all started much earlier for him…he simply decided not to air his dirty laundry publicly.
“It wasn’t like I was super close to everyone in the family,” he says. “It actually goes back to things in high school that made me feel distant. College stuff, post-college stuff. And I didn’t say anything about it. Because I thought the best way to do it was to just, like, don’t talk about it.” publicly. And what do they do?”
Aaron is obviously referring to his younger brother. JordanAppearing on “The Bachelorette” in 2016… where during visits to his hometown, there was a seat for Aaron at the table, highlighting the broken relationship between the caller and his family.
“They put on a bull show and left two empty chairs,” says AR.
“Does everyone agree that it was a good thing to leave two empty chairs on a stupid dating show where my brother just got famous?”
Rodgers also addresses his family’s religious beliefs, saying he “grew up in a very white, dogmatic church, and that wasn’t very helpful to me. It had a very rigid structure.”
Fast forward to today… Aaron credits the “medicinal plant” with helping him heal.
The Rogers family, including his mother and father, have not yet commented on the Netflix doc.
