The scene took place on August 9, at 9 a.m., rue de Dison, in front of the Providence school. Jalal (36 years old) and Walid (40 years old) go to meet a certain Nesreddine in order to obtain cocaine. But the affair turns sour, and the latter hits Jalal with a violent punch to the jaw. He pursues the dealer and strikes him several times, using a chopper, on the arm, shoulder and the back of the head, which will be qualified as attempted murder! As for Walid, grabbing the weapon, he threatens Nesreddine by pretending to cut his throat.
Not a knife that we make toast with!
While still detained, the two men appeared before the Verviers criminal court, Jalal for attempted murder, Walid for threats with a weapon. Where Jalal defends himself: “We were going to meet him to buy white (actually, cocaine). I didn’t do anything, he took the money, then punched me until I broke my jaw. We were completely drunk. » At 9 a.m.? “We drank all night, and also took cocaine” he said, pretending not to remember what happened next, nor the origin of the knife he used. “A knife? In any case, it’s not a knife that you make toast with, let’s say rather a chopper” Judge André retorts. Witnesses state that he carried it on him, in his pants, and the video images prove that he pursued the dealer with the weapon in his hand. Jalal will admit that he uses cocaine and cannabis, in addition to alcohol.
Walid for his part claims to have wanted to play mediator by trying to separate the two men. “I wanted to avoid there being a death” he said. So he thought Jalal was going to kill the dealer? “Yes, it was a very violent scene” he admits.
30 beers per day
For Ms. Troisfontaines, public prosecutor, this is a case that she describes as pathetic. “Here we have two men who do nothing with their lives except take drugs and drink. And which depend on society. Walid admitted to drinking up to 30 beers a day! » For her, the video images sufficiently demonstrate that Jalal pursued the dealer with a chopper in his hand with the obvious intention of attempting his life, a fate he avoided but with injuries such as a doctor of the hospital says it has never seen them. She demands 40 months in prison for Jalal, and 8 months for Walid.
But for Jalal’s lawyer, Me Puisat, the intention to kill is not really established, even if the scene is impressive. And the victim is not innocent either. She therefore requests a reclassification of the prevention as assault and battery, and a probationary suspension for the two men.
Judgment in a month.
