The Caivano Carabinieri arrested two people accused of committing a hostage-taking robbery in a bank in Grumo Nevano. Here are the facts: as part of an investigation by the Naples Public Prosecutor’s Office, the carabinieri identified two men accused of having, on July 19, 2024, with the help of other accomplices, carried out an aggravated robbery with hostage-taking in a banking establishment in Grumo Nevano. Using the “hole technique” and accessing through the sewer system, they dug a passage into the basement and made a hole in the side wall of the basement bank. In this way – the carabinieri explain – once inside the bank, they interrupted the office activities of the banking establishment for approximately two hours, taking eleven employees and eight customers hostage at gunpoint. According to the results of the investigations, the suspects stole 160,000 euros in cash and the contents of almost all the security boxes: a loot of three million. During the investigative activities, it was possible to identify the bandit who acted as a “lookout”. The man, in the preceding months, is said to have rented commercial premises located right next to the bank, to ensure that the tunnel digging work could take place without arousing suspicion. The carabinieri found the identity of the accomplices thanks to the analysis of the contents of the mobile phone of the person who played the role of “lookout”, as well as the analysis of the images extracted from the video surveillance system. The suspects were incarcerated, awaiting the validation hearing.
