Adriano cries when he hears his dead father’s voice

Former international striker Adriano (42) made his official farewell on Sunday in Rio, during a gala event. And one moment in particular, very emotional, caused embarrassment among many Internet users.

Until then, Adriano’s jubilee (42 years old) was very traditional. Sunday evening, the former center forward of Brazil (48 caps, 27 goals) and Inter Milan, in particular, gathered friends at the Maracana stadium in Rio to play a gala match, on the occasion of his farewell in football.

An event eight years after the Brazilian’s last official meeting. 20,000 spectators gathered in the stands of the legendary carioca enclosure and saw, for the anecdote, the legends of Flamengo – Adriano’s training club – dominate the “Friends of Italy” (4-3).

But then, in the middle of this match, an unexpected moment took place. It proved to be the emotional high point of the evening for the ex-striker. And there is something! On the stadium’s giant screens appeared the face of Adriano’s father, died suddenly in 2004 of a heart attack.

And his voice, reconstituted by artificial intelligence (AI), delivered a long message of tribute to his son’s career.

Enough to make the latter burst into tears on the lawn, who recently admitted to having never managed to mourn the loss of his dad. Several players came to comfort him.

If this tribute is greeted by Internet users who find it “splendid”, it also causes embarrassment in many othersas mentioned The Dispatch. An anthology of their startled reactions on the social network X:

“Awful to give him his father’s voice in front of thousands of people”

“I think it’s crazy what they did there, knowing how he experienced the death of his father…”

“AI will never replace its daddy. I simply find it shameful”

“The guy has already been at the bottom of the hole for years, and here we show him his father’s illusion… Not sure it will help him”

“It’s too much, we have to stop tormenting him with the death of his father”

After his career ended, Adriano returned to live in the Rio favela where he grew up. In November, he told the media The Players’ Tribune his alcoholism problems. “I drink because it’s not easy to be a (football) promise who remains in debt. And it’s even worse at my age,” says the man who had acquired the nickname “Imperatore” (“Emperor”) in Italian stadiums.
