Former Olympiacos and Vitoria player Janis Timma found dead in a Moscow street at 32

Janis Timma, Latvian international basketball player, was found dead at just 32 years old at the foot of a building in Moscow. He had played in several Russian clubs but also in Spain.

A face of European basketball has tragically disappeared. Janis Timma, a 32-year-old Latvian winger, was found dead at the foot of a building in Moscow (Russia). According to the first elements, the suicide theory would be favored. According to Latvian media REN , a phone was found near the body with the inscription “call Anna” indicated on the device's screensaver.

Porzingis' tribute

Janis Timma had recently divorced her partner Anna Sedokova, a Ukrainian singer and actress who described their relationship as “complicated”. According to the singer, former member of a group called VIA Gra, the couple separated twenty times before getting back together as many times. But the last one seemed final.

Timma reportedly left the United States last October to join a Moscow club. The Latvian international spent his career with several European clubs such as Zenit Saint-Petersburg (Russia), Baskonia Vitoria (Spain), Olympiacos (Greece), Khimki Mosou and Kazan (Russia). Jannis Timma was also chosen in the 60th position in the 2nd round of the draft by Orlando in 2013. He never played in the NBA, making five appearances with the Magic's Summer League team. In 2021-2022, he returned to the United States to play in the G-League with the Lakeland Magic team.

Several of his former teams paid tribute to him on social networks this Monday such as Baskonia or Olympiacos. “We are all shocked and saddened to learn the tragic news: our former player, Janis Timma, has died at the age of 32,” mourns the Greek club. “We will always remember him for his kind heart and his smile. We wish his family and loved ones strength and peace during this time of mourning.”

Fellow Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis also sent him a message on -he writes addressing his thoughts to the player.
