The general Igor Kirillovhead of the chemical, biological and radiological defense forces of the Russian army, died this Tuesday morning in Moscow, following the explosion of a homemade bomb. The attack also claimed the life of his assistant and raised many questions about security in the heart of the Russian capital.
A targeted attack in the capital
The explosion occurred around 6 a.m. at the level of Riazansky Prospektan artery located approximately 7 kilometers southeast of the Kremlin. According to the Russian Investigative Commissionthe explosive device had been hidden in a electric scooter placed at the entrance to a residential building. At the time of the explosion, Igor Kirillov and his assistant left the building, resulting in their immediate deaths.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the power of the explosive device was estimated between 100 and 300 grams of a material equivalent to TNT. Commission forensic experts and investigators are continuing their on-site investigations in cooperation with emergency services.

Kirillov, who regularly denounced the biotechnology threats posed by laboratories assigned to the Pentagon in Ukrainian territory, was a potential target for its positions.

The Russian prosecutor’s office opened a criminal investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the attack and its perpetrators. If the possibility of a terrorist act is preferred, no official claim has yet been announced. The authorities promise rapid responses, while security services have strengthened their presence around several sensitive sites in the capital.
