The National Union of Workers of Territorial Authorities of Senegal (SYNTRAS) recently visited Diourbel to ask for better organization of local public service status. Under the leadership of Cire Dia, the national office stressed the urgency of resolving the situation. According to Mr. Dia, many employees are still unaware of their classification, thus plunging Diourbel into unacceptable confusion. ‘We deplore that agents from Diourbel are forgotten while those from other regions are taken into account,’ he declared.
Cire Dia also spoke about the notable absence of the Association of Mayors of Senegal (AMS) in the current discussions, emphasizing that only Mr. Alé Lo had historically defended this cause. SYNTRAS asks the ministry concerned to dialogue with workers and respond to their demands: salary increases, adapted medical coverage, and transfer of IPRESS residents to the FNR. This is a strong call for the authorities to take their responsibilities in order to improve the living conditions of territorial workers in Diourbel.
