The Régie Incendie des Monts (RIDM) and the union representing its firefighters announced on December 12 the conclusion of a new collective agreement marked by a spirit of mutual respect and collaboration.

The result of respectful discussions, this agreement reflects a balance between organizational needs and staff expectations.
“We are pleased with this conclusion, which illustrates our ability to work together to build a respectful, solid work environment adapted to current realities. This partnership demonstrates our commitment to providing excellent service to our citizens, while ensuring the well-being of our firefighters,” declared Éric Fulker, general director of the RIDM.
“This agreement marks an important step, because it aims to adjust the work schedules and salary conditions of our firefighters to current reality. Dedicated to the safety of our community, they deserve conditions that reflect the importance of their commitment and the challenges they face every day. I am very pleased that this agreement was negotiated in a spirit of respect and proactivity. This climate of collaboration demonstrates the shared desire to place the interests of citizens and employees first. Ultimately, this progress benefits all citizens served by the Régie feu des Monts, strengthening not only our emergency services, but also the human fabric of our community. Together, we are building a stronger and better protected community,” added Frédéric Broué, president of the RIDM board of directors and mayor of the town of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts.
A commitment focused on the future
Among the main elements of the agreement, we find:
- Flat rate feedback of 4.5% for the year 2024;
- Salary catch-up for the year 2025, distributed over several levels;
- Progressive salary increases of 2% for the years 2026 and 2027, then 3% for the years 2028 and 2029;
- Evolution of internal guard duty towards a 7-day model with one officer and three firefighters during the day, with an increase in on-call hours to reach 12 hours by 2029, aligned with the requirements of the risk coverage plan .
- This agreement, which replaces the one that expired in December 2023, will be in effect until 2029.
“We do not claim that this convention is perfect, but it represents a fair balance. It respects citizens’ ability to pay while responding to the needs and realities of our firefighters,” said Dany Gagné, president of the union.
