Around four hundred young volunteers are committed to fighting the recurring fires in the city of Goma (North Kivu). They made this commitment on Friday, December 13, following a series of six-month cascade training courses that they received, allowing them to acquire the skills necessary to intervene effectively.
These young volunteers are now engaged in almost all districts of the city of Goma, ready to intervene in the event of a fire, even with rudimentary means.
They do not have adequate equipment, said one of their managers, Gédéon Lwanzo Matumo. He highlights the urgent need for adequate equipment support for his teams.
The city of Goma has only two firefighting vehicles to cover eighteen neighborhoods. Currently, only one is operational.
This mobilization comes after the launch of construction work on a fire station in Goma by the provincial governor last week in the Kasika district. This project is part of the modernization of civil protection.
