Reacting in a press release to the resignation of Chrystia Freeland, the leader of the New Democratic Party, Jagmeet Singh declared:
The abrupt resignation of Justin Trudeau’s right-hand man shows the extent to which members of this Liberal government are obsessed with infighting and ignoring the urgent challenges facing Canadians.
While the Liberals fight among themselves, I think we should fight for Canadian jobs threatened by Donald Trump’s tariffs. While Trudeau obsesses over his own drama, I believe we should focus on the cost of homes and groceries that are burning people’s paychecks and diminishing hope.
We have no lessons to learn from Pierre Poilievre, who rejoices in the spiral of Trudeau’s death and Trump’s threats. Conservatives don’t think about ordinary people either – they focus on enriching big corporations and ultra-rich CEOs at the expense of the public

The Liberal MP for Glengarry—Prescott—Russell, Francis Drouin, called for the departure of his leader this morning following the announcement of the resignation of Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland.
At some point, when we lose key players from our team, we have to sense what is coming and our PMwith all due respect, is very unpopular at the moment. That’s the truth. The caucus has been asking for changes since 2023 and these changes are not happening and we are seeing disorganization within the cabinet itself.
he said.Il [Justin Trudeau] must leave, because it has to be done, it no longer makes sense, I don’t see a way out for my colleagues […]we are not even capable of proposing a plan today, we were supposed to propose a plan, this economic update there, and here we are talking about a Minister of Finance who is retired.
How many goals will we score in our own goal? That has to change.

The $250 check, an object of contention?
Without specifically mentioning it in her missive addressed to Justin Trudeau, Ms. Freeland seems not to share the views of her leader, who recently announced a GST holiday and the payment of a $250 check to all Canadians who earn less than $150,000 per year. Measures contested in retail and economic circles, in particular because of their cost and their low effectiveness.
We must avoid costly political gimmicks that we cannot afford and that make Canadians doubt that we recognize how serious this moment is.
This resignation comes as the Trump administration threatens to impose tariffs of 25% on Canadian products.

What about the economic statement?
As for the economic statement that Ms. Freeland was to present at the end of the day in the House of Commons, we already know that she will not be the one to present the document. It is also possible that the filing of the document will be delayed, or even postponed.
Obviously, Chrystia Freeland will have decided not to present this budget statement with which she does not agree while her boss was preparing to replace her.

From minister to MP
But Chrystia Freeland is not leaving politics. She plans to finish her term as a Liberal MP and even seek another one in the next election.
I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues as a Liberal MP and am committed to running again in my riding of Toronto in the next federal election.
It is inevitable that our term in government will end. However, how we address the threat our country now faces will define us for a generation, and perhaps much longer.
concludes the one who led the Finances of the Trudeau government for more than four years. -

The Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister of Canada created a stir Monday morning by announcing her resignation from the Cabinet of Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau. Instead, she was expected to present an economic update at the end of the day.
In a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that she published on her X account, Chrystia Freeland writes that she is leaving office at a time when Justin Trudeau was preparing to take away the Finance portfolio from her.
Last Friday you told me you no longer wanted me to be your Finance Minister and offered me another Cabinet position
