Robbie Williams defends Oasis amid controversy over concert ticket prices

According to the British singer, the music industry sector “has learned its lesson” from the dynamic pricing scandal rocking the United Kingdom.

Not guilty. After the members of the group Oasis, led by the Gallagher brothers, who swore to have nothing to do with the scandal of dynamic pricing of concert tickets, Robbie Williams, in turn, came to swear with his hand on his heart that he knew nothing about this sales technique. Dynamic pricing? It consists of adjusting the price of tickets according to demand. The stronger it is, the more the price rises, as Oasis fans saw to their great despair last summer, with the sale of dates for the Manchester group, who had been absent from the stages for 16 years. .

In an interview with the magazine The Face , Robbie Williams has defended the British music group. « I don’t think Oasis knew about it. Liam certainly didn’t know there was going to be this thing called dynamic pricing, he explained. Besides, I myself only discovered the existence of dynamic pricing because of Oasis. » The fault, according to him, therefore lies with the producer of the tour, Live Nation, and its ticket sales subsidiary, Ticketmaster.

Last summer, the first sale of tickets for the Oasis Live ’25 tour turned into a national affair in the United Kingdom and Ireland. After waiting many hours in front of their screens in the Ticketmaster queue, buyers found themselves facing prices two to three times higher than those initially announced. Tickets whose initial price was 150 pounds (178 euros) had climbed to more than 350 pounds (419 euros). The outcry was such that British politicians of all stripes called for more transparency in ticket sales and a specific investigation was opened.

Three months later, Robbie Williams believes that « the whole music industry has learned the lesson », swearing, for his part, that he will be attentive to the pricing of his own concerts. « This dynamic pricing thing even made me say to myself“damn, I have to attend meetings about this” or just say “we don’t do that!” » That’s good, Robbie Williams will be on tour in 2025. With certified prices without dynamic pricing?
