MP Jean-René Cazeneuve visited miller Pierre Gouzène in his Gaujan flour mill. The problems encountered by the miller were discussed on this occasion.
As part of the request from the National Association of French Milling (ANMF) to deputies to come and meet the millers of their department in order to discuss the problems encountered in the milling industry, Jean-René Cazeneuve, deputy of the 1re Gers constituency, went to the Gouzène de Gaujan flour mill.
Pierre Gouzène, the manager, in the presence of Gérard Roehrig, mayor of the town, presented the mill to him, a family business established for 6 generations in Gaujan and passed down from father to son, with know-how going back almost 150 years. Member of the ANMF, he benefits from the information, services and advice of the association.
During the guided tour of the mill and its operation, from reception of the wheat to bagging, Pierre Gouzène insisted on important points such as the selection and assembly of wheat, the regularity of flour for markets. diversified, the different specifications, the manufacturing process with 12 grinding passes and quality controls at each stage of the process.
A one-stop shop
Nearly 15 tonnes of wheat are crushed every day and the flour is distributed to bakeries, pastries, biscuit shops, pizzerias and individuals in Gers and neighboring departments.
Pierre Gouzène then spoke of the problems encountered in the context of his activity: insufficient margins to enable compliance with standards, the volatility of raw material prices which weaken these companies, the price of energy which has soared since then. few years, the difficulties of recruitment and often unknown training while great careers can be made there and also the need for support through the creation of a one-stop shop which would facilitate access to the various possible aids: renewal of machines , diagnosis energy, improvement of working conditions and others.
Jean-René Cazeneuve, accompanied by Mr. Farin, said he was “very interested” and appreciated the visit to the mill and “the clear and sincere exchanges”.
