fewer functions to lower its price, this is the risk of such great finesse

The iPhone 17 Air intrigues and excites. Apple would like to use it to boost sales of its smartphones and would give it a rather low price compared to its habits.

Concept d’iPhone 17 Air

If the iPhone SE 4 is the first Apple device that we should see arrive in 2025, there is one that is getting a lot of attention, it is the iPhone 17 Air. A thinner iPhone to potentially replace the Plus version, that’s the idea.

Personally, I was recently forced to switch from an iPhone 16 Pro Max to an iPhone 16 Plus and what a joy to have in my hands a smartphone weighing less than 200 grams and a bit thinner.

Less equipped, but finer and less expensive

With the iPhone 17 Air we could hope for even better. According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is banking heavily on it to continue to boost sales of its non-Pro iPhones. This year finally, the basic iPhone 16s were entitled to the new Apple SoC and therefore a significant extra power. Enough to improve their sales figures, better than those of the iPhone 16 Pro, according to a CNN report.

The iPhone 17 Air should drive the point home with a price that would be lower than that of the iPhone 17 Pro. The Wall Street Journal talks about less than $999. Problem is, there will certainly be concessions to be made. We cannot compress so much technology with impunity by controlling its price without losing a few functions in the process.

Here, we are talking about the removal of one of the two photo sensors of classic iPhones. The iPhone 17 Air could be satisfied with a 48 Mpx wide-angle to also respect its thickness which is thought to be 6 mm, or almost 2 mm less than the iPhone 16 Plus.

The iPhone 17 Air, if it is real, would logically be presented in September 2025. It would be preceded by its main competitor, Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Slim, expected in mid-2025.
