A house under renovation catches fire near Lens: 40 firefighters mobilized

And violent fire declared this Sunday, December 15, 2024 at Billy-Berclau (Pas-de-Calais), near Lens. Shortly after 5 p.m., a house under renovation caught firenext to 40 firefighters had to intervene on site. Explanations.

Violent fire in Billy-Berclau Sunday evening

It was 5:15 p.m. when dozens of firefighters arrived at 15 rue Jules Guesde in Billy-Berclau. “The firefighters responded to a house fire with a risk of spreading to the neighboring house. The house is currently being renovated,” specifies the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis).

The extinction required the use of four lances, two of which were on an aerial ladder. Six occupants were relocated by the family, the couple and the two children of the house concerned, as well as the neighboring couple. “The rapid and effective action of the emergency services made it possible to avoid the spread to the neighboring house,” adds Sdis.

Luckily, no casualties were reported. An elected official from the municipality, technical services, Enedis, GRDF and the national police were on the scene.
