The 2024 African Golden Ball ceremony will take place this Monday from 7 p.m. (French time) in Marrakech, and the more the hours pass, the more the clues converge for the winner. After the flight of an Egyptian journalist this weekend, Le Parisien gives another striking clue. According to the daily, Achraf Hakimi, in the running for this prestigious title, will be supported by a strong presence: Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG, will specially travel to Morocco to accompany him.
Al-Khelaïfi moves. Not for nothing?
This gesture underlines the importance of this reward for the Parisian club and for the Atlas Lion. Hakimi, who is playing “at home” for this ceremony, has solid arguments to succeed Victor Osimhen. It’s hard to imagine that Al-Khelaïfi, now an influential leader of world football, would make the trip for nothing… With PSG, his player won the French championship and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. With the Moroccan selection, he won the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, notably scoring in the large victory against Egypt (6-0).
This season, Hakimi is also shining in Ligue 1 with decisive performances: three goals and six assists in all competitions. He even wore the captain’s armband twice, proof of his rise in leadership. If Hakimi wins, he would become the first Moroccan crowned since Mustapha Hadji in 1998, a historic moment for Moroccan football. Faced with competitors like Simon Adingra or Serhou Guirassy, the support of its president and his impressive consistency could well make the difference. Response this Monday at 7 p.m.
